about foundation
what we do
The John Joseph Akar Memorial Foundation was established in 2022 by John Joseph Akar’s daughter (Emily Akar) and grand-daughter (Hawanatu Savage) to bring awareness to Rotifunk, Sierra Leone while expanding to other areas in Sierra-Leone. The organization is a nonprofit aiming to join forces with partnering schools and hospitals while fostering a learning environment in educating the youth about basic healthcare. Our focus is to provide resources and supplies for children and young women between the ages of 1-18 years old.
Join our action. Everyone can help.

“ I am a Physician Assistant in Raleigh, NC and am excited to partner with Eve and Emily through the John Jospeh Akar Memorial Foundation to bring much needed access to education, healthcare and water to the people of Rotifunk, Sierra Leone. This is a region in dire need of assistance and I am thankful to JJAMF for providing an opportunity to partner with them in providing basic needs for these under-resourced people. I have had the pleasure of working with both Eve and Emily for several years in the healthcare industry. Through this time, I have seen first-hand their desires to serve the underserved and advocate for those who have no family. I have grown to love them dearly and now see them as part of my own family. They are both a joy to know and love and it is a true pleasure to serve alongside of them with JJAMF. “

“ My name is Priscilla Jones, friend and co-worker of Emily Akar. When Emily told me about the wonderful work and contributions her dad made to his community in Sierra Leone I knew I wanted to be a volunteer for the John Joseph Akar Memorial Foundation. I believe everyone has the right to access to clean water, a good education and adequate healthcare. Volunteering for this organization would warm my heart to know that I helped raise money, supplies, and education materials for the children and young women in this impoverish area.
Thank you in advance for the opportunity to help in any way possible “
